When Linn Records were approached by Dr. Fred Freeman in 1995 they immediately recognised the importance and potential of producing a CD series of "The Songs of Robert Burns"

To record nearly 400 of Robert Burns songs for posterity is commercially commendable but of extreme importance historically.

What generally existed of modern performance was limited and often misrepresented Robert Burns. Few people, even many who claim to be Burns fans, could name more than a dozen of his songs.

Burns had tried desperately to prevent the Viennese composers and the concert halls from destroying the ‘Native Features’ of "Our National Music". As a fiddle player himself he would have been delighted to hear his songs as they have been arranged, sung and played on this collection of 13 CDs (12 CDs, including one double.)

200 years of the poet's turning in his grave will have been put to rest thanks to Linn Records, Dr. Fred Freeman and a selection of Scotland’s Finest Singers and Musicians.
